National Programs Sponsored and Administered by the Military Order of the Purple Heart

The majority of funding for these programs is received from the MOPH Service Foundation through either restricted or unrestricted grants. The Service Foundation receives their money through various fund raising activities, such as thrift stores, the car donation program, ...etc.

The Service Program- By far the largest of the programs. The Order's Annual Operating Budget is approximately $9 million, of which $6 million goes to support the Service Program. This program operates a nation-wide network of more than 70 offices, staffed by over 100 trained Service Officers and assistants; they are accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
In addition the Order has a core of Department and Chapter Service Officers who volunteer to assist Veterans and their families throughout the Country.
Fast Fact
VAVS-Veteran Affairs Voluntary Services. The Order has volunteers throughout the Country, who donate their time at VA Facilities to assist Veterans. In 2006, the Order donated almost 96 thousand hours to the VA (The Ladies Auxiliary donated an additional 18 thousand hours). This saves the VA from hiring approximately 65 full time employees.
Americanism Program-The purpose of the Americanism Program is to work with schools and other organizations to help promote U.S. history and the quest for freedom.
Scholarship Program-Each year, the Military Order of the Purple Heart awards scholarships to select students who complete the application process and meet certain criteria.
The Purple Heart Trail-The Purple Heart Trail was established in 1992 by the Military Order of the Purple Heart to be a symbolic trail throughout all 50 states to commemorate and honor all men and women who have been wounded or killed in combat while serving in the U.S. armed forces.
ROTC/JROTC Program-The Military Order of the Purple Heart's Youth Programs are focused on fostering patriotism and good citizenship among America's youth. We recognize outstanding leadership in cadets and midshipmen through the Senior and Junior ROTC programs in the United States and Department of Defense Dependant Schools worldwide.
First Responder's Program-The purpose of the First Responders Program is to pay respect to Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters who are killed or wounded in the line of duty.
