Neil
Van Ess holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from William Paterson College and a Masters
Degree in School Law and Administration from Seton Hall University (1985). He joined
the United States Army in 1967, and served in Viet Nam with CoC. 3rd/506th Infantry
unit of the 101st Airborne Div., in Phan Thiet. He was wounded in combat in August
1968. After leaving the Army in 1970 he became a police officer. In 1982 he was
appointed Patrolman and in 2001 was promoted to Detective Bureau Commander with
the rank of Detective/Lieutenant. Neil has been a life member of the MOPH since
1989 and holds the position of National Inspector. In addition, he serves on MOPH’s
Special Investment Audit Committee and is Chairman of the MOPH Scholarship Committee.
He is presently the Coordinator of Special Events and Northern Region Aide-de-Camp
for the Department of New Jersey. He was the past Senior and Junior Commander for
New Jersey and past Region I Chief of Staff for Joe Genduso. He holds a Gold Life
membership in the New Jersey Policeman’s Benevolent Association and is a member
of the New Jersey Narcotics Association; the National Crime Prevention Society;
and the National Society of Investigators & Detectives. In 1991 he was awarded
the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Officer of the Year. Neil’s public service
includes being an elected Totowa, NJ School Board of Education Trustee from 1985
to 2004, serving as its President for 12 of 19 years. |
