Jesus (Jesse) Torres joined MOPH
in 1995 as a Life Member and is a Charter Member of Triangle Veterans Chapter 637
where he has held every elected and appointed position since joining. He is currently
the National Youth Activities Officer as well as Commander, Department of NC, having
held most of the Department positions prior to becoming Commander. He is also member
of the American Legion, VFW, and Marine Corps League. . . . . Patriot Torres was
born in San Antonio, Texas but grew up in Munday (North Central Texas). He joined
the Marine Corps in July 1965. On 11 January 1966 he landed in Vietnam and was assigned
to Lime Company of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, of the 3rd Marine Division.
He was wounded 19 March 1966 around Hill 22 (South of Da Nang) when
his squad was ambushed. Upon his return to his unit, he became the ‘Company CO’s
radioman where he served under five different Commanding Officers. In December of
1966 he extended his Vietnam tour with Lima Company by an additional six months.
During his 19 months in country, he served at Hill 22, Hill 55, and Monkey Mountain.
On October 1966 his unit was moved to the DMZ area of Dong Ha, Con Tien, Cam Lo,
Calu, the Rock Pile, the Razor Back, Mudder’s Ridge, Khe Shan and the surrounding
mountain range. . . . . Patriot Torres was honorably discharged from the Marines
on July 1968 and settled in Charlotte, NC. North Carolina has been his home since
then. He went to the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, under the GI Bill,
earning his BS in accounting. He then joined an insurance firm, rising to Chief
Finance Officer and retiring in 2007. . . . . The Torres are proud parents of five
children – one in the United States Marine Corps and another currently serving in
Iraq with the United States Army. |
