Jim
Sims is a 1962 graduate of Saint Martin’s University where he was the Student
Body President and played Basketball. During his distinguished Marine Corps career of more than 26
years, Sims commanded a Platoon, a Rifle Company in Viet Nam, the Marine Barracks
Hawthorne, Nevada, and the 3rd Battalion 4th Marines. Other significant
assignments included Aide to the White House Chief of Staff and Instructor at the
Marine Corps Command & Staff College. Jim is a Distinguished Graduate of the
Air War College, and earned an MBA from George Washington University. When he retired,
he was the Chief of Political-Military Analysis for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. After
leaving the Marine Corps, Jim Sims enjoyed a second career in state government and the private sector. He was, for 12 years, the Director of the Washington State Pollution
Liability Insurance Agency. He also worked as a commercial property manager, Business
Enterprise Director for the Chehalis Tribe, and Retail Operations Manager for Time
Oil Company. He was for 3 years a member of the Olympia Planning Commission, and
for 8 years an elected Supervisor of the Mason County Conservation District. Sims
has served the Military Order of the Purple Heart as the Washington Department Commander,
Region III National Commander, Chair of numerous Committees, and National Junior Vice Commander.
