Donald R. Nichols is a Life
Member of MOPH, joined in 1992, and currently serves as Commander Cherokee County
Purple Heart Chapter 641 as well as National Veteran Employment Officer. He is also
a Life Member of DAV, member of the Marine Corps League and member of the First
Marine Division Association . . . . Patriot Nichols served in the United States
Marine Corps from 1965 until 1967, was wounded in combat in September 1966, and
received the Purple Heart Medal . . . . After his tour with the Marines, he attended
Northeastern State University and then joined the Veterans Administration (VA) for
29 years, retiring in 1999 as a GM-14, after serving as Veterans Benefits Counselor,
Management Analyst, Finance Officer, Budget Officer and, finally, National Direct
Deposit Officer in Charge. In this last VA position, Patriot Nichols was responsible
for developing and implementing all policy for the Department of Veterans Benefits
related to the Electronic Fund Transfer Program, which involved supervising approximately
80 people, one of the largest support divisions. He received numerous awards for
his work with VA, including an Outstanding Career Award and the Al Gore Scissors
Award . . . . After his VA career, Patriot Nichols started the Eagle Sales and Consulting
Business, currently providing services to Loveless Orthopedic Footwear and Appliances
. . . . He continued his quest for higher education by getting a Master of Science
Degree (Education) from Northeastern State University in 1976, and a Master of Arts
Degree (Counseling) from Oral Roberts University in 2002, earning high grades and
becoming a member of three National Honor Societies . . . . In addition to his MOPH
activities, Patriot Nichols served stints as the Chairman of the Postal Customer
Council, District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, and as a member of various
other important civic oriented Committees . . . . He’s also served as a pastor in
three different churches in the Northeast and Southeast Oklahoma Districts in addition
to his career and civic achievements. |
