The Military Order of the Purple Heart

John “Jack”
Leonard Patriot “Jack” Leonard is a native of McLean, Virginia. He is a graduate of LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA and holds a Masters in International Business Administration (MBA) from National University, San Diego, CA. Jack and his wife, Sheila, proud parents of two grown children, presently reside in Ashburn, VA.

Lt. Col. Leonard enlisted in 1963 and completed active military service in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1990 as Head, Logistics Plans and Operations (LPO-1), HQMC in Washington, DC.

He served as an Infantry Platoon Commander in Viet Nam, commanded Infantry and Transportation units in 1st and 2nd Marine Divisions, and completed tours of duty in several Joint Logistics Commands, with the US Department of State (Internal Security/CT), the U.S. Rapid Deployment Joint Task Forces, U.S. Army Forces Command, and served as JSO Political/Military Officer with the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) in J-5.

In addition to the Purple Heart, Lt. Col. Leonard holds the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal w/2* and the Navy Achievement Medal. He has also been awarded the Secretary of Defense (SecDef) Superior Management Award and the Secretary of Transportation (DoT) Superior Management Award.

Jack has an extensive background in Personnel Management, Finance and Business Operations and has served in senior business operations and Human Capital Development positions in the contract services, consulting, construction, printing and water utility industries. He was a Senior Member of the Board of Directors in several business and transition assistance organizations.

Patriot Leonard joined the National Headquarters Staff of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) in 2004. Jack has served as MOPH National Service Director (NSD) 2004-2008 and as National Adjutant 2009-2013 and again in 2016.
