 J.J.
Witmeyer, Jr. was born in New Orleans, LA. J.J. enlisted in the Army
the day after Pearl Harbor. He was a Tech. Sgt. (platoon) in Company "G" of the
314th Infantry, 79th Infantry Division. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, and
became a Platoon Leader. J.J. is a member of various organizations such as the Eisenhower
Center Roundtable, D-Day Museum Charter Member, American Legion, DAV, Combat Infantry
Association, the Retired Officers Association, Nat'l. Order of Battlefield Commissions,
French Fleur Le Garre Society, among others. He was married to his wife Thais for
62 years before she passed away in March 2006. He has 4 sons, 2 grandsons, a great
granddaughter, and a great grandson.
