Father
Stegman is the son of the late Alex and Frances Stegman. He is one of 18 children,
seven of whom are still living. He was ordained at St. Mary's Church in Marathon,
Wisconsin on
June 23, 1943. In 1948, he began his career as a chaplain in the United
States Army which lasted almost 30 years. He was awarded the Silver Star twice for
gallantry in action, and the Purple Heart. After retiring in 1977, he remained in
the Washington, DC area continuing extensive ministries in civilian and military parishes. In 1988, he moved to San Antonio, Texas where he continued his three state
supervision of world wide marriage encounter, intense service in local, state and
national Service Organizations (MOPH and KWVA), and continues his parish ministry.
At the age of 89, he claims he has just begun to serve the Lord but will retire
as soon as he gets through middle age.
