Alex
Waigandt was born in NewYork and grew up in Los Angeles, California.
He enlisted in the Marines in 1967 and was deployed to Vietnam in January 1968.
Waigandt
served as an infantryman with Charley Company, 1st Batallion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine
Division. During his 13 month deployment, Patriot Waigandt earned three Purple Hearts
for wounds received in combat. After returning to conus, and being separated from
the Marine Corps, Waigandt choose to pursue a career in education and research.
He was accepted at the University of Missouri in 1974 where he earned a Bachelor’s
and a Master’s degree. He matriculated to the University of Oregon and earned a
Ph.D. in Health Statistics. He then returned to the University of Missouri to take
a full-time job as a professor of Health Statsitics. He and His wife, Marti live
in Columbia, Missouri and have four grown children. |
